Iconic Moments in Cricket

---The Underarm---

Quoted by Richie Benaud 'as the most disgraceful thing he had witnessed in a cricket field.'On February 1,1981  New Zealand were playing Australia in the third of the best of five world series in Melbourne,Australia.15 runs needed of the last over bowled by Trevor Chappell, younger brother of both Ian and Greg.It came down to 7 off the last ball with Brian Mckechnie on strike.Captain Greg Chappell asked Trevor to roll the ball along the ground.Underarm bowling was still legal but unethical.Greg's unsporting conduct was widely criticized and since underarm bowling was banned.

---The Battlefield---

Pakistan's Javed Miandad clashed with Dennis Lillee during the November 1981 Perth Test. They both collided when the batsman completed a run.Lillee kicked Javed on the leg and Javed reacted angrily by threatening to hit Lillee with the bat.Umpire Tony Crafter is seen between the two.Lillee was blamed for the incident.

---Sportsmanship---

Bret Lee and Michael Kasporowicz had bought Australia within 3 runs of winning before Kasporowicz got himself out during The Ashes of 2005.At the end Flintoff broke away from the team celebrations to console Lee.Despite the intense rivalry of both the teams ,they remain friends.

---Six 6's---

September 19,2007 Yuvraj hit six 6's of Stuart Broad's over in a World T20 match .He became only the 4th batsman in history to accomplish this feat in senior cricket.

---By the Slip---

---Shoulder before Wicket---

Umpire Darryl Harper of Australia ruled it out as a lbw thus making it as the only incident of a Shoulder before wicket.Sachin ducked to a ball by Glenn Mcgrath thinking it as a bouncer but the ball hit him on the shoulder.

---The Victory Cigar---

England all-rounder Ian Botham is seen smoking a cigar after making 149 against the Aussies .England turned the game back even after put to follow-on by the heroics of Botham by bat and Bob Willis with the ball.

---The Heartbreak---

Australian players rejoice after a terrible misunderstanding between Lance Klusener and Allan Donald during the World Cup of 1999.The game was tied and Australia qualified for the final by run rate thus beginning Australia's decade long domination of World cricket.

---The Vaseline effect---

England's John Lever is seen with a gauge soaked in vaseline over his eyes. The reason he gave was that it prevented sweat from entering into his eyes.He took 7-46 in his debut at Delhi swinging the ball in unhelpful conditions.Indian skipper Bishan Singh Bedi accused him of cheating by shining the ball using vaseline.

---The Bad and the Ugly---

Michael Holding kicks the stumps after being turned down by umpire John Hastie. The West Indian players complained that the umpires were biased during the New Zealand tour of 1980.

---Path to Glory---

June 18,1983 the BBC employees were on strike hence there is no video recording of one of the greatest knocks. The score was 9-4 when Kapil came and smashed 175 off 138 balls .After that they went on to win the World Cup.

---The Bat,Bad and the Ugly---

Umpires Max O'Connel and Donald Weser ask Dennis Lillee to swap his bat.The reason-he played with an aluminim bat!!It was 1979 Ashes.During that time there was no stipulation about using aluminium bat so Lille didn't budge. Finally he threw away his bat after his skipper Greg Chappell intervened.

---Thank god,we have it Today----

Here Mike Gatting was stuck on the nose by a bouncer from Malcolm Marshall. At that time helmets with visors were a rarity so you could've imagined the effect on his face. The story is that the ball came with a portion of Gatting's nose bone dislodged in it..!
