    Swamii is a new search engine on the block and it acts like a RSS feed.Confused?It's really simple.First you have to open an account just by entering your email and password-that's right no filling of forms.
   Then tell about the things in which you are interested.You have to give minimum 10 things and you are done.And then Swamii will search the web continuously and will notify you whenever relevant and cool stuff related to your specified area is released.It works like an alert service.

     The first Academy awards are held at Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.250 people attended.Tickets costs US$5 and the event lasted ten minutes..!Best Picture went to silent movie Wings.

1935
    After winning the Best Actor Award for It Happened one Night,Clark GAble makes the shortest ever acceptance speech,saying,"Thank You."

1940
    Hattie McDaniel becomes the first Black person to be nominated and bursts into tears when she wins her Oscar for Best Supporting Actress as the maid Mammy in Gone With The Wind.

1970
   Midnight Cowboy wins Best Picture-the only X rated film to do so.

1974
   For the only time in her career,Katharine Hapburn agrees to attend the ceremony to present an honorary award.After few minutes on the stage she dashes into a limo.She  holds the record for the most acting oscars-4.

1992
   After winning an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor,Jack Palance,73,drops to the floor and does one armed push ups to prove he can still compete with younger actors.Another elder was honoured that year but he was too ill to go and accept it.It was Satyajit Ray for lifetime achievement.

1998
   After winning 11 oscars for Titanic James Cameron announces."I'm top of the world."

2009
   Slumdog Millionaire showers Oscars on A.R.Rahman and Gulzar.Smile Pinki,also set in India,got one for Best Documentary.

  The 5835 members of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominate candidates in their respective fields.The winners are chosen by a second round of voting.On the day of the ceremony the results are sealed and kept in envelopes.And by the way a duplicate set is also kept,just in case..!

  Winners are told to limit thank-yous to 45 seconds or they will be drowned by the sound of the orchestra.Many ignore this.In 2001,Julia Roberts began her Best Actress award acceptance speech for her role in Erin Brokovich by making sure the conductor knew exactly how she felt:"Sir,yo are doing a great job but you're so quick with that stick.So why don't you sit,because i may never be here again."It worked,the orchestra let her finish.

  Anyone who wins a Best Actor or Actress award is instantly promoted to the "A List' and can exponentially increase their acting fee.It's been said that Hilary Swank upped her asking price from $1 million to $8 million a picture after winning the Best Actress in 2005 for 'The Million Dollar Baby'. How apt...?

Comitia-Roman Assemblies

      In Ancient Rome,Comitia were assemblies of people which were summoned in groups to vote on proposals presented by magistrates.Dating from 500 B.C,Comitia performed different functions during various periods of Roman history.The earliest of such institution was the Comitia Curiata.

      It confirmed the selection of Roman kings.Later Comitia,such as the Comitia Centuriata(organized by wealth) and Comitia Tributa(organized by Tribes) voted on laws,established titles of authority and judged criminals.By 100 A.D the Comitias' legislative and judicial power were abolished.

      It is amazing that the Romans had a structured plan for everything and it greatly resembles todays governing ways.It can be called as the predecessor of modern governance.
